Valentine’s Day Ultimate Check List for a Night In

Hi everyone!

We are just under two weeks before Valentine’s Day and I thought I would share my little checklist that I have been creating in my head. In the past, Pat and I have gone out to some fancy restaurants for a big night out for Valentine’s Day but we kind of always end up deciding that we love staying in for it! We love trying a new recipe and snuggling on the couch watching a movie and talking about some of our favorite times together. We kind of think that the restaurants hike up prices and have these set menus but we never seem to think it’s an amazing ordeal. If going out to a fancy place is your thing- go for it girlfriend! If you are more like Pat and I and enjoy staying in then continue reading on for my tips to ensure your day is a huge success!

1.) Set your love off on the right foot by letting him know what time he is to be at your place. If you guys live together, I would suggest you ask him what time you think he will be home or let him know you want to cook dinner and what time would work for him. Or, you two could set a time to make something together! This is what Pat and I will do, we love making it a night trying out a new recipe and baking a delicious dessert!

2.) Stop by the beauty counter and pick up a new lipstick. Okay, this one may not be on the top of all of your lists, however, every time I buy a new lipstick, it is such a great lipstick and I feel super glamorous and girly. It just kind of builds more excitement! Hahah! My favorite is Mac Lipstick and I have been obsessed with this ‘Angel” color!

3.) Plan ahead your outfit. We all know this is crucial to start any evening or event right. Plan your outfit and if you don’t dress up often, considering doing so to surprise your guy! It’s always nice to see when one puts a lot of thought and effort! I have my eye on this little wrap number here….

4.) Create a card or pick up a thoughtful one. Cards are literally my favorite thing to receive. I would take a thoughtful card over any gift. I think we live in a world where we don’t share our feelings or express our gratitude to each other enough. Take the time to find a card that really express your feelings and I certainly usually write an entire novel inside of my cards so you can always do that too. Just make sure you do this ahead of time so you’re not scrambling to write how you feel last minute!

5.) Cook his favorite meal and bake his favorite dessert. I always take note when Pat really compliments me on a meal I made. I love when he says “don’t eat all of this tomorrow, let’s have it again for dinner”. Hah! That means he loved it and wants leftovers! Keep a mental note of these so you can surprise him on special nights or again, maybe you two want to try a new recipe and cook together!

6.) Set the mood and light candles everywhere. Little tea light candles are a super inexpensive way to really elevate the mood. Transform your space to something really special! When Pat proposed to me he must have had at least four dozen tea light candles lit everywhere. It was so thoughtful and so romantic!

7.) Write down your 10 favorite things about him and share with him. Sometimes you get ‘settled’ into the relationship and you don’t make it a point as often to compliment each other. It always feels good to hear positive things from your significant other so on this Valentine’s Day I encourage you to share your favorites about your partner!

8.) Exchange gifts or chocolates! Sometimes Pat and I just surprise each other with a small little gift, something thoughtful and meaningful. It certainly doesn’t have to be something grand, just a little something!

9.) Play a board game to switch up your nightly routine. Currently, Pat and I are watching Narcos and while I am obsessed with this Netflix show, with it being the holiday, I’ll take a night off and switch it up so feels like a different but special night!

10.) End your night with telling him how much he means to you and give him a big kiss!

I have these thoughts through out the day and any little thing can set them off, but I feel so truly lucky to have Pat in my life. He is incredible and the most amazing person I have ever met. I literally would not know what I would do with out him. I myself, need to work on telling him and those I love more often how much they mean to me. How much they have touched my life and continue to do so. I hope you take the time to do so too. You never know what it means to the person receiving your kind words.

Have a good weekend!

xx, Brittany Ann
